How long does an AFF course take?

A typical example would be starting ground school on the first day and maybe even completing level one on the same day, levels 2-4 can be completed on the second day and then levels 5-7 on day three.

This is just an example and will depend on your personal requirements and of course the weather. There is no requirement on the length of time it takes to complete the course - it is totally up to you because you. As the student you will set the pace.

When do the AFF courses start or what is the best time of year to start?

We don't have any fixed dates to start a course. The drop zone operates 7 days a week, 365 days a year with instructors available at all times. Just pick the day on which you would like to start and confirm it with us.

The weather conditions remain stable for student jumping all year round so you should pick a date and time of year that is convenient to you.

How is the weather in Central Spain?

Central Spain offers a good climate for skydiving. We do have occasional periods of weather which are not suitable but these days are rare. March to November is the best period for skydiving as the days are also long and you have more time to jump. December, January and February have more mixed weather when it can be cold, with an average of 2 days of rain per week.

How many AFF jumps can I do per day?

On average a student will jump three to four times per day.

Skydiving produces a lot of adrenaline which can make you feel physically and mentally tired when you first start jumping. Because of this most students will not want to do more than three or four jumps per day. However, the more jumps you do and the more you get used to jumping the more you will want to do per day.

How do I know that I like skydiving when I have never jumped before?

Our AFF courses are designed for beginners and around 60% of our AFF bookings are students who have never jumped before. During ground school you will be taught all the necessary skills and be given all the necessary information you need to skydive. Once nothing is a mystery anymore you will be confident and excited about your first jump. However, if you are still unsure about jumping, you can do your first jump as a tandem.

Similar to an AFF level one jump your instructor will introduce you to the body position during freefall, let you have your own altimeter and let you do some practice parachute deployments. Once the parachute is open you and your instructor will work together to fly the parachute to a safe landing.

I have static line experience, do I have to start with AFF again?

If you have completed your 10 second delays and have been cleared for 15 second delays (BPA category 5) or above you can convert to AFF from level three after a short ground school. Any previous experience in the static line system, even if you haven't completed any 10 second delays, counts a lot as you will not be as nervous on your first few AFF jumps. Some of our customers chose to convert to AFF as this method is a much faster learning system.

You can see all the information about Static Line to AFF here.

What aircraft will I be jumping from?

We operate two aircraft of the type Pilatus Turbo Porter B2-H4 PT6A-34 full time at the dropzone.

Both have capacity for 10 skydivers and bring us in only 12 minutes to 13.000 ft., so this guarantees fast rotations and therefore a large number of starts and jumps.

Can I bring someone with me on my skydiving holiday?

If you would like to bring your partner or a friend you are more than welcome to do so. We can find the same accommodation and you can share the cost of transfers or the car rental. When your course starts there will be plenty of things for your friend or partner to do or see on the drop zone or visit in our region.

If they are already a skydiver then of course they can either fun jump or take advantage of some advanced coaching courses.

Where exactly is the Drop Zone located?

Our skydiving center is located 90 km south of Madrid in the heart of the 'Castilla de la Mancha' region which is known for its great wine and tasty olives and fruits.

You can reach Lillo in about one hour driving from Madrid and there are many tourist and historical sightseeing places to visit in the local region.

What is your Drop Zone like?

Our drop zone facilities are located on a large airfield which was built for the gliding world air games in 2000. We have a lot of space and alternative landing areas without any obstacles or hazards not to mention the swoop pond for the more experienced skydivers. We have a large carpeted hangar for packing and for storage and plenty of areas to chill out in. Our restaurant / bar on site is operated the same hours as the drop zone is and we have an outdoor barbecue and pool for everybody to use.

On the drop zone itself we have space for camping which is free of charge.

Local airspace is unrestricted which means we don't suffer from any flight restrictions for parachutists.

Lillo itself is a small town and the locals are very open and friendly. There are many bars and restaurants to relax in after a good days jumping.

What are 'consolidation jumps'?

After finishing the 7 levels of the AFF course you will move into the solo student status and do ten consolidation jumps. These jumps are for you to practice what you've learnt on the course and to gain confidence in your own skills. For the duration of your ten consolidations you jump by yourself but are still supervised by an instructor before you board the aircraft and on the climb to jump altitude.
